INSPIRE CHANGE is thrilled to have worked George Takei and the team of ALLEGIANCE The Musical to provide unprecedented experiences for students and teachers alike. The piece takes place in a rich but largely overlooked time in history and the INSPIRE CHANGE team believes that watching ALLEGIANCE with students can serve as a profound and exciting platform for learning. Below are a number of resources to help teachers do just that.

INSPIRE CHANGE brought over 2,500 students to Allegiance on Broadway. Schools applied to become Inspire Change schools which provided pre-and post-show workshops in their classrooms with INSPIRE CHANGE teaching artists, subsidized tickets to the show, and a talkback with the actors following the performance.

Our education team has two guides for teachers.

Both Guides serves as excellent companions to attending and/or studying the show and is fully aligned to the Common Core and the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Theater.

The "Educator Resource Guide" is the ultimate resource for studying Allegiance. The full guide is a terrific companion to the production with activities and resources for you and your students. This version can be ACCESSED HERE. (Due to the size, you will be prompted to download the zip file).

The “Abbreviated Educator Resource Guide” provide teachers with a streamlined approach to the subject matter. This is recommended for teachers looking for an introduction to the subject matter. This version can be ACCESSED HERE.

Inspired by true events, Allegiance is the story of the Kimura family, whose lives are upended when they and 120,000 other Japanese-Americans are forced to leave their homes following the events of Pearl Harbor. Sam Kimura seeks to prove his patriotism by fighting for his country in the war, but his sister, Kei, fiercely protests the government’s treatment of her people. An uplifting testament to the power of the human spirit, Allegiance follows the Kimuras as they fight between duty and defiance, custom and change, family bonds and forbidden loves. Legendary performer George Takei — (Star Trek, “Heroes”), who was himself an internee as a child, stars alongside Tony® winner Lea Salonga – (Miss Saigon, Mulan) in this enthralling and epic new musical.
But as long-lost memories are unlocked, Sam finds that it is never too late to forgive and to recognize the redemptive power of love.

AGE RECOMMENDATION: ALLEGIANCE is recommended for ages 10+
